What kind of ship was the Kelvin?
 

Thinking on the size of the ship and the number of shuttles present, Do you think she could have been a colony transport of some kind? Perhaps even bringing in colonists to the Tarsus IV colony.

Colony ship, interesting idea. I really liked the Kelvin, and would love to know more about her (commission a Kelvin series plx Paramount :P).

Not sure what type the ship was (they were on a survey mission, though I don't know if a vessel that size would be built to take on such a singular mission) but i think it is a sign that the subsequent USS Enterprise and its various technological and architectural differences were not really the result of any time-tampering but just a much needed redesign to fit 21st Century expectations for what real space interstellar spaceships would look like: BIG!

Seems pretty straightforward. Wasn't she near the Klingon border or did I mix up something?
