Purists, get ready to bash another one
In the spirit of "reinventing" the old stuff (a la Star Trek), here's another one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m-b1Zb2bd8 Aaaaaaaand bash away. Me, heck I like what I see. Even with all the action and glam, by trailer alone it seems Downey has wittiness to for this character. And the acting and much of the storytelling still seems to pay homage to old styles. It really looks like an impressive film. Can't wait. |
Looks interesting.

why would we bash something who's original story is contained in Conan Doyle books and therefore will not be effected by this movie?

The trailer just made me scribble this film on my "must see" list. |
I can get a little canonistic about Holmes, but in this case I'm in a complete "wait and see" pattern. As long as he's still a cokehead and a neurotic, I'll be cool with it.

Nope, it was cocaine. A 7% solution, to be precise.

The trailer looks pretty good (Rachel McAdams - whoopee) and it does take some story elements from the actual first Holmes story. But fortunatelt this one has already been reported as a looser interpretation of Holmes than in the books, so some modern flourishes don't put me off anyway. And it has been added to my 'see it' list! |
Holmes as an action hero? That's a new one! And Robert Downey in the title role? I had no problem seeing him as Chaplin, but Holmes? He would have never entered my mind for the role. But this isn't Doyle's Holmes is it? It's Holmes as Bond or something.
