Vulvan Hand Greeting
How is it so many Star Trek fans don't know the thumb goes out when doing a Vulcan hand greeting?

Captain John Belushi 02-08-2008 01:15 AM

Note to self: Vulvan actually spelled Vulcan... dammit Jim.

I'll admit I don't hang out with other fans enough to notice this, but it seems that keeping the thumb against the other finger makes it harder to do. Honestly, I've never seen anyone do it that way.

The man himself shows the right way.

I've noticed that too. When ever people greet me with it I tell them it's wrong because their thumb isn't sticking out.

That's funny, I've never seen anybody keep their thumb in, but then again it's not like I see it everyday

Ha. I'll get non-fans try to give me the hand, but they can't seem to even
split their fingers correctly, let alone keep the thumb out. Silly otherlanders.

It's funny you should mention this. Although, I have never seen anyone do the hand salute as you describe. My bond mate and I are Vulcans on line. I developed an online, textual version of the salute many years ago and use it continually. You will see it at the end of this message.
