Sulu, a sword and shirtless?

I read that Sulu in this film has a sword (Like a lightsaber?), do you think John Cho will go crazy and run around with his shirt off like in TOS?

What moments from TOS would you like seen in this film or at least referenced? Tribble Troubles or anything like that.

I think Uhura is taking her top off which I prefer over Sulu.

The funny thing in this movie is Sulu is fighting with a fold-out Katana, while in TOS he was running around with a rapier. During the filming of "The Naked Time", the director said he wanted Takei to be chasing people with a Katana, and George changed the scene on the theory that Sulu was Asian-American, and wouldn't have played "Samurai" as a kid, he would have played "Robin Hood" or "Musketeer" as a kid, and would have taken up fencing as a result of that. So this scene seems to be playing off the non-filmed concept of Sulu. Of course, Sulu could just be a badass and well versed in weaponry of all kinds. (Imagines Sulu gearing up for a landing party ala Arnold in "Commando")

I think Sulu should be able to run around with any kind of sword, why wouldn't he?

Maybe he has a collection of swords and chooses what he feels like from them.

Nope, he is not fighting shirtless. He wears a yellow space suit. Mmmmhhh... wait a second... I smell a movie reference here... Katana and yellow suit... what movie could that be...

I really, really prefer that Takei keep his sword sheathed. Really.

Really.

You heard about the incident with Doohan, right?

What happened with Doohan.

Takei was practicing with the rapier, as he had taken a "crash course" in fencing over the weekend before they were going to shoot the scenes. Well, while he was going over the moves he was going to do while filming, James Doohan got curious about all the noise coming from behind a curtain, and decided to investigate. According to Takei, without warning, while he was practicing a thrust, Doohan stuck his nose in, and almost lost it. Afterward, Doohan ran away screaming, "Help....George just tried to kill me!"
