Is This The " Life Size Enterprise JJ Had In Mind?

Enterprise gets floated
An approximately 12 foot USS Enterprise float is being unveiled during the three mile parade to commemorate Gene Roddenberry. The creator of Star Trek was born in El Paso, Texas in on August 19, 1921. As the theme of this year’s parade is "El Paso Pride" it is appropriate to honor the man who gave the world Star Trek. The float is being created by the Downtown Lions Club of El Paso. [El Paso Times]

Roddenberry float being prepared
The Sun Bowl Parade is the largest parade of its kind in West Texas/New Mexico, with between approximately 350,000 people attending. It started in 1936 as a prelude to the New Year’s Day Sun Bowl football game. However, in 1978 it was moved to Thanksgiving Day. The parade is on TV beginning at 10 a.m. on Channel 9-KTSM (cable Channel 10)

That can't be it; not ugly enough.

Sure.................... DONT YOU CALL HER UGLY. WHATEVER SHAPE OR FORM, SHES THE ENTERPRISE!

it's only my opinion but...

No. It's a tad smaller than life size. Think aircraft carrier!

Church's is ugly. I'm unapologetic. If you feel different, that's your right, but to me Church's anachronistic mishmash does not deserve the name Enterprise.

sure. did you see the other angles of her?

I saw the fore three-quarters shot that's been everywhere, the head-on shot, amidships and three-quarters astern shots that were in the trailer. None of them change the ugly, curved pylons, the grotesquely oversized engines (complete with TNG-era christmas-tree blue glow) or the TMP deflector. To my eye, no angle changes the weird organic shape of everything other than the TMP saucer, which itself doesn't belong on a ship that isn't supposed to get the TMP refit for another 10 years or so.

Yeah to each their own, but I agree with you... the new ship is just.. unbalanced as hell in the mixed styles and badly proportioned scales of parts and that jutting forward engineering section... yuuuck. They did get kinda close... same basic form and shape... I suppose... *sigh*

Shhhhh, you'll spoil the surprise! ... but yeah, I read about that too... not exactly as impressive as some of the ideas floating about. 'life size enterprise casino' ... uuunnngh... I hope not...

It's bad enough that the thing is proposed as being "just like" the classic ship, but what's worse is people are acting like it actually is just like the classic! What?! After how much of what kind of hardcore hallucinogenic drugs does that thing look to anyone "just like" the classic design? So it's got a saucer, a neck, a secondary hull and two nacelles -- so did the Enterprise-D from TNG? Is anybody on hardcore enough crack that they'll say with a straight face the Enterprise-D looked "just like" the classic TOS Enterprise?
