Gary Sinise should have been cast as McCoy.

Just saying. He fits the McCoy mantra...and he can speak with a southern accent.

Discuss.

Gary Sinise is like 70 years old. If you're going to cast him as a 20-something McCoy, you may as well cast William Shatner as a 20-something Kirk.

Ugh, horrible choice. Karl Urban will be great.

Wasn't McCoy around fifteen years older than Kirk?

LTJG Iferal 11-23-2008 07:14 PM

Perhaps, but it doesn't change much - you're still talking about a 54-year-old man (I just looked it up) playing a 35 year old. It's a stretch.

yes and Scottie was like 44 years old in the first season. Now they got McCoy and Kirk going to the academy together. The crew are they supposed to be the same general age in the new movie.

Gary Sinise really does look the part. He was my first choice. However, he's a tad old (not really overly so...I think Kelley was closing in on 50 during the series). I do think having McCoy noticeably older would be better. I like that dynamic of the younger hot shot and the older wise soul....

That said, Karl Urban can do a southern accent. He stared in a TV Miniseries Comanche Moon where he played a southerner.

And...he's hot!

So a 20 something year old playing a 40+ year old Character isn't???

Makeup and pounds can be added to an actor to make him appear older; so far as I know, an efficient method for making an actor appear significantly younger doesn't exist yet.

Great idea - except for the age factor.

But he definitely has the 'McCoy eye bags'...
