$2,500 3-D printer
I haven't done a comparison of what's out there but noticed an article about a new 3-D printer priced at $2,500 (before discounts) with maximum object size of 8.9 x 8.9 x 8.1 inches. I remember when these things carried a minimum price tag of half a million dollars. There are plenty of Lightwave files of Trek ships, phasers, etc. on the Wild, Wild Web for free download that can be run off as physical models, either by paying a shop to do it or by buying this or some competing machine if you want lots of models, which would require a little sanding and a lot of painting and would be heavier than kit models but presumably of better quality. And in a sense, a 3-D printer is a replicator.

Anyway, here's the artlcle on this particular 3-D printer:

Yes, amazing how cheap they are becoming. Yep, replicators are on the way!

I would love to have a 3D printer so I could make pretty much whatever ships pop up in me noggin' that I make on Blender and iClone. :)

You just KNOW the printer is going to be cheaper than the toner!
