3d Modeling attempt…

Spent a day and a half constructing the model using Adobe Illustrator to draw up the bits I needed then brought them into AC3D (Mac or Windows)(inivis.com) as background images and traced them.

Did not attempt recreate the Enterprise as we know her. Just attempted to get something similar, working out how to create, modify and assemble. Never made anything similar before so it was a learning process. Pretty happy with the result though.

Few lo-res screenshots attached.

Detailing and rendering the bloody thing will be a whole different matter!

Looks like you're off to a good start there, O-man! Keep it up, and keep posting your progress.

It does look like you took the tail section of a warp engine, and placed it onto where the hangar deck should be, but again, you did say this was not an Enterprise that we knew, so run with your imagination. :)

As an amateur 3D modeler meself, I am interested in what you create. :)

Spot on on your Shuttle Bay Observation observation Martok. Will fine tune that when I get a chance.

Great. Looks like a lot of work.
The hard part, I guess, is coming up with great original designs for starships, cars--whatever.
If you had a 3D printer, you could really get carried away designing things and rendering them in plastic.

I always found when building physical models the detailing and rendering was the most fun part. Not that I was ever good at it to a serious degree but I would have thought the same might apply to CG modelling on a computer.
