If you were to introduce your girlfriend to Star Trek...

Which episode would it be? Now, obviously it would have to be an episode of TOS. But, it would have to be a silly one I'm guessing. Like something we could all enjoy. If you have any ideas please list them! Thanks!

Trouble with Tribbles maybe, always good fun.

Quark 06-17-2012 11:50 AM

Oh yes of course! Thanks!

And why do you want to do this?

Always nice to share the things we enjoy with people close to us, would you not?

I successfully introduced my ex-girlfriend to Star Trek, via TNG though as TOS didn't come across very well to her. Now she's been buying her own copies of DS9 so seems I did well!

Well, I'm glad it worked for you, but I think it has to be done the right way. It can't come across like you are trying to change her into someone who shares your geek passions because she's not good enough the way she is.

You are not seriously asking how many silly TOS episodes there are besides Tribbles and Piece of the Action, are you?

This. Easy to communicate the expectation of "I want you to like what I like" while doing this. You basically get a triple-layer of desire, I love the show, I want you to love the show as well, I pretend to love the show to please him.

I think if TOS then definitely City on the Edge of Forever.

I like to hope that sharing an interest with someone doesn't come across as trying to change them, had she not liked it I wouldn't have forced it on her. And differences are good too of course, liking different things so you're not just copies of each other.

The only thing I would ask if she didn't like it would have been to respect that I like it and not belittle my taste in geek passions, which I think applies well across the board with everyone really.
