Ziyal's Death...

Why did Dukat say Sisko was responsible for Damar's killing of Ziyal? He wasn't even there. I just saw the episode, and Ziyal is saying goodbye to Dukat (her father) when all of a sudden a blast out of nowhere kills her right in the heart. Now, it seems to me that no one else was responsible for the death of Ziyal but Damar. He even said earlier that he should have her locked up and considered her a traitor. It just don't make sense as to why Dukat would blame it on Sisko and not Damar.

My only guess is that Dukat lost all common sense after his daughter died and he had to justify it some way by blaming it on the one man he hates the most.

She was killed for helping her friends escape, she was killed for being a traitor. Dukat blamed Sisko, as a symbol of the Federation, for what to Dukat would be corrupting his daughter. He essentially feels that it was the influence of the DS9 cast of characters that led to her death, and Sisko is the head. Damar was acting as a Cardassian. He did what he was supposed to do, and Dukat understood that.

Was Ziyal's death the only (lasting) change coming out of that seven-episode arc? I haven't seen it since '97, but it seems to me everything else was fairly well reset by the end: they reclaimed the station, pushed the Cardassians back, thwarted the Dominion's efforts to bring a fleet through the wormhole...

If I ever catch up on my DVD backlog I need to watch this again. I certainly spent enough cash on it.

Just get Netflix. You can watch all the Star Trek series on there. ;)

It's already in my DVD backlog. ;) Hence my comment about having spent enough cash on it.

I know, but I was speaking in general.

I assume you refer to the streaming. I never plan to go that direction unless forced.

Quark 02-08-2012 12:30 AM

Okay, forget I mentioned it.

Anyway...back on topic I feel that Ziyal was just confused. It was hard for her to choose what side to be on but I feel that she made the right choice when choosing to side with Kira. At first, when she was with Kira on the ship with Dukat, she found it hard to choose sides and even tried to convince Kira that Dukat didn't mean any harm and was sorry for the damage he caused during the Occupation, but Kira wouldn't listen. And, for her not listening I could totally understand Kira. But, it was nice to see Ziyal eventually turn and help out. It was sad to see her go...
