I just heard this and was going to start a thread. I've read quite a few of his books. Certainly a great loss, but he had a full life. I was also sad hearing about Anthony Minghella.

Sadness....he wrote my absolute favorite Science Fiction book Rendezvous With Rama...but, he lived a full and long life, he changed how people think... There's nothing really to grieve... as has been said, he has a better view now.
