Mark Dailey, 1953-2010
It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Toronto newscaster and voice announcer Mark Dailey on Monday night.
This man was the voice announcer and news reporter for Toronto TV station City TV, and a generation of people in southern Ontario and western New York grew up on his voice announcing City TV programs and doing the news. Many of us Trekkers from Toronto will remember him as The Voice announcing episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise (as 'Your Federation Station, City-TV'), but he was also the announcer of Space: The Imagination Station until the sell off of it to CTV Globemedia (Mark stayed with City TV, which is owned by Rogers.) Mark also voiced characters in the animated series Medabots, The Ripping Friends, Beyblade, Grossology, My Dad the Rock Star, Spliced, and others.
Mark had battled prostate cancer a few years back and beat it, but it came back as kidney cancer, which he finally succumbed to last night.
In honor of Mark, I'm going to show his announcing of Star Trek shows (TNG & DS9):
I was saddened by the news myself. A close friend of mine worked with Mark for 8 years before the CTV/Rogers split. From what I hear from her Mark was a stand up guy. Always treated everyone the same and always made time to help out a friend in need. She actually got him to do a little voice over work for a video she did for our group. He won't be forgotten.
