Hmm, as I remember that mission didn't end too well...

Did anyone in Starfleet ever check if firing a photon torpedo at the end of that episode actually destroyed/killed the creature?

I recently watched that episode, they didn't fire on the creature. They fired on the shuttle so as to take away any chance that the creature had of leaving the planet. They also quarantined the planet.

It's all the oil from the spill - they sent it to space in a DY-100 (the SS Zoology Bay) where it crashed on Vagra II and now only wants vengeance. XD

It always seemed a very large explosion - you'd imagine it could have taken the creature out as well.

Though, quarantining should work as well! :001_smile:

Picard did have an ethic about just destroying lifeforms even if they were "bad". He would try to reason with them until he had no other choice but to deal with them in a lethal manner. :thumbup: Then there were always those "things", parasites, that were taking over key Star Fleet personnel. He dispatched them "directly" quite unlike he did any other life form!:thumbup:

Yeah, Picard shoots when it suits him - but in terms of the episode the explosion was pretty large, so even if the creature was 'collateral damage' then it looked big enough to cover the area where it was.
