Fess Parker - RIP
While "Star Trek" was easily the best one hour show of its era and arguably of all time, another show that really held up well was Fess Parker's "Daniel Boone" series which ran on NBC from '64-'70. "Boone" was one of NBC's highest rated shows of that era and kids like me who missed its original run enjoyed catching up with it in reruns years later.
Parker, who became a national pop culture hero as "Davy Crockett" in the 1950's, passed away today. Retired from acting since the mid 70's, Parker subsequently has run one of the country's premier winery's, his based out of California, of course.
My wife and I plan on vacationing in California this Summer and will indeed stop at his winery. I was hoping to meet Fess, who was a true hero to me and a great reminder of a kinder, gentler era.
