SO---no nomination in "Best Picture" category? Since they increased the number of nominations, I thought Star Trek had a good chance for a Best Picture nom!

I'm disappointed about it as well...but not at all surprised.

Well, I'm thinking it doesn't stand much of a chance when it comes to visual effects against "Avatar" so let's hope it will win for sound editing and mixing...

It's funny because on Sunday I watched the featurette on the Blu-ray about how Ben Burtt went about creating some of the sounds and it was very, very interesting. He was using a lot of old school equipment dating back to the 70s, which I thought was rather surprising. Apparently, he wanted to recreate some of the sounds in TOS exactly as they were but he couldn't simply because not everything had been documented. I guess back then no one realized that those techniques could be used again some 40 years later...

It never really had a chance at all for a Best Picture nomination. Avatar was considered the better Star Trek movie.

this event is a travesty as always..

Actually, I loved District 9. Truth is, Star Trek was up against Avatar and District 9, so the Best Picture nod was an outside chance anyway.

Good thing that Michael Giacchino is getting some nods for hus music to Up. Well deserved.

Just nominations.
Star Trek won a lot of awards for its TV shows (TNG still holds the record for the most emmy nominations and awards), but Star Trek never was big enough as a movie.

Here you can see all Academy Award nominations Star Trek got:
